Bayern Munich pulled clear at the Bundesliga summit last weekend and will be eyeing more of that when they travel to St. Pauli. The Bavarians and Kiezkicker meet for the first time since 2011. Below is our preview and prediction of this match.
The last time these teams met, St. Pauli were crushed 8-1 on their way to getting relegated. They have just returned to the topflight and it has been tough as well. The hosts start this game in 15th spot, having just recorded their second win of the season in beating Hoffenheim 1-0.
St. Pauli haven't been scoring a lot; they are indeed Bundesliga’s lowest scorers with seven goals.
The league’s lowest scorers are to meet the highest scorers. Bayern Munich have scored 32 goals and are also pretty solid defensively. Their midweek 1-0 win over Benfica in the Champions League marked a fourth straight win.
That was also their fourth straight clean sheet, completing a turnaround of fortunes after their loss to Barcelona. A 3-0 win over Union Berlin last week, was helped on by RB Leipzig’s first loss of the season, Bayern opening up a three-point gap. For now, they are the only unbeaten team in the Bundesliga.
