A few weeks back, fourth-placed Sporting Braga hosting Benfica in the Primeira Liga would have been a cracker. Going into this matchday 34 encounter, only Benfica, sitting second, will feel they have something to gain. We have a prediction for this match below.

Braga have gone into a slump in the past few matches. From a possible nine points in their last three matches, Braga have only bagged two. As a result, they’ve fallen three points off the automatic Europa League spot.

After coming from losing positions to earn two points against Famalicao and Santa Clara, Braga fell 2-1 to Casa Pia last week. They are, however, unbeaten in their last seven home league matches.

Benfica missed the golden chance to go top of the standings following their 1-1 draw with Sporting. The two sides are joint on 79 points, but Benfica’s earlier loss to Sporting is keeping them away from the title.

To be crowned champions, Benfica have to avoid dropping points here and hope Sporting do. Otherwise, a win here and Sporting dropping points would also work.

While it seems very likely that Benfica will win here, it looks improbable that Sporting Lisbon will lose at home to Vitoria Guimaraes. In the reverse meeting, Braga won 2-1, but in two cup games after that, Benfica won.
