Southampton entertains Manchester City at St Mary’s Stadium in this Premiership match. The home team are in 12th position with 24 points while the champions are in first place with 56 points. Southampton have lost just twice in their last nine matches and their home form has been even more impressive. They are unbeaten at home in their last seven matches and this is their best run since 2016 when they went nine matches unbeaten. Southampton drew 0-0 with City in the reverse fixture but haven’t avoided defeat in both league meetings since the 2002/03 season. They have won their last two home matches against teams starting the day at the top of the table. Last season they beat both Liverpool and Everton in such fixtures.

Manchester City are in great form and look odds on favourites to be crowned champions again unless they have a catastrophic collapse. They are eleven points clear of second placed Liverpool although the Reds have game in hand. Man City have won their last 12 league matches with an aggregate score of 34-7 and in this period they have gained 13 more points than any other team. They also have an outstanding record against Southampton having won eight of the last 10 matches against them although they have been held goalless in two of the last four. City lost their opening round  away fixture in the league and have been unbeaten in the ten away games since then.
