Karolina Muchova’s progress has been hampered by injury, but she will be expected to sail past Sorana Cirstea in the US Open second round. This match marks the seventh meeting between the two, and the winner will meet Eva Lys or Linda Noskova next. We have a prediction for the match below. 

Muchova had to sweat it out against US Open veteran Venus Williams in the last round, winning in three sets. A two-time US Open semi-finalist, Muchova has only been to three semi-finals this year. 

She hasn’t progressed past the second round at the Grand Slam level and heads here placed 19th in the live rank.

Cirstea returned to Flushing Meadows on a winning note after missing last year’s edition. She beat Solana Sierra in straight sets of 7-5, 6-0 in the first round. 

Cirstea has suffered five defeats at the hands of Muchova, and the Romanian will be keen on halting this run. She has just one win in this fixture and will have the underdog feeling coming into this, even though she has a title to her name this season. 

Cirstea won in Cleveland as a qualifier but has so far been eliminated early in the majors. At the Australian Open and Wimbledon, she suffered first-round exits.
