There have been shocks aplenty in the 2025 Wimbledon Championships. The last 16 sees lucky loser Solana Sierra take on unseeded Laura Siegemund. Here’s our match prediction.

In the last eight, the winner of this match will take on either Aryna Sabalenka or Elise Mertens next.

Sierra would have been high on the list of players not expected to get to the last 16. The 21-year-old’s only previous grass court match had been a loss in the qualifiers here last year. 

Her Wimbledon run looked to have ended when she was beaten in the qualifying rounds. Then she was reinstated as a lucky loser and hasn’t looked back since. The Argentinian has defeated Olivia Gadecki, Katie Boulter and then Cristina Bucsa in three sets and is now 65th in the live rankings.

Laura Siegemund first played this tournament in 2011. At that time, Sierra was just seven. Now 37, the German has finally made it past round two.

There was little sign of this in the warm-up tournaments with no wins. It’s been a different story at WImbledon with seeded players Leylah Annie Fernandez and Australian Open champion Madison Keys both being beaten. That's taken her to 73rd in the live list.

We tip Siegemund to make it into the last eight.
