Slovenia host Slovakia in qualifying Group H of the 2022 World Cup. The home side are fifth in the group with their opponents two places higher than them. Slovenia are only two points behind Slovakia and three points from the second place that would earn them a play-off position. They got off to a good start with a 1-0 win over Croatia but then lost 2-1 away to Russia. Their most recent qualifer saw them disappointingly lose 1-0 away to Cyprus. Slovenia didn't play at Euro 2020 and have had only two friendlies this summer. A late goal got them a draw away at North Macedonia, then they hammered Gibraltar 6-0 at home in early June, though no goals were scored after the 61st minute. Slovenia are unbeaten in their last eight home matches, four having under 2.5 goals in them.

Slovakia are in third and only a point behind the top two of Croatia and Russia. Those two countries meet in this round, so Slovakia would be rather pleased with a draw. A win over Slovenia will see them go top if that is the result in Russia. Slovakia began this group with a goalless draw in Cyprus but followed that with another poor result. They went 2-0 down at home to Malta but recovered to earn a 2-2 draw. Their most recent group match was a much better result with a 2-1 home victory over Russia. They failed to make it out of their group at Euro 2021, beating Poland but then losing to Sweden and then a 5-0 loss to Spain. They do struggle to score away from home doing so in only one of their last six on the road. Go for under 2.5 goals in this game.
