Senegal came to life in the knockout stages after a slow start to the 2021 AFCON and will be facing Egypt in the final. This will be Senegal’s second straight appearance in the final and they will be hoping to finally win their first AFCON title. Going to this game, Senegal have been great defensively, only conceding two goals in the six matches so far. After scoring just one goal in the group stages, and that coming from the penalty spot, Senegal have been a completely different side in the knockouts. In the three knockout games, they have eight goals, and Sadio Mane has been a key spark for them. The Liverpool man was on show with an assist and a goal as they beat Burkina Faso 3-1 in the semi finals. They will definitely have lessons from two years ago when they lost to Algeria in the final. Back then they missed a few key players but that will not be the case here, and even more, they will go to this game having had an extra day’s rest.
Egypt got a measure of revenge over Cameroon for the 2017 AFCON final loss, beating the 2021 tournament hosts on post match penalties to book their place in the final. For the Egyptians, this was the culmination of a slow start to the tournament, and they will be gunning for an eight African title, facing a side in search of the first. After their opening loss to Nigeria, Egypt have been very solid, only conceding one goal in the five matches that followed. Just like Senegal, they have four clean sheets in their six matches at the 2021 AFCON and this is the form they will want to carry to the final. One thing that might work against Egypt though, is that they have 120 minutes in their last three matches, and twice even gone to post match penalties. It is like they have played a game more than Senegal and this could haunt them in the final. These two sides last met in 2016 in AFCON qualifiers and Senegal registered two wins in the two matches.

Senegal left it late before unleashing their best against Burkina Faso, and here we expect another really technical game. An advantage for Senegal here is that they played a day earlier and have an extended rest. They haven't gone to extra time in this competition, like Egypt in the last three matches. Egypt will surely be a bit jaded going to this game and the suspension of their coach and assistant will not help. Senegal have an upper hand here and we will be backing them to win.
