Senegal are ranked 22nd in the world and that makes them the highest ranked African nation. They have only lost one of their last 11 internationals, winning nine of the last ten. The only defeat came when losing 1-0 to Algeria in the group stages of this competition. They finished second behind Algeria in their group with wins over Tanzania and Kenya. The goal conceded against Algeria is the only one that Senegal have conceded in their last five matches. Their quarter final opponents were Uganda and it was an up and down game for Liverpool's Sadio Mane. He missed a penalty but also scored the winning goal.

Benin are ranked 66 places below their opponents and are playing in only their fourth African Cup of Nations finals. The previous three saw them fail to make it out of their group or even win a game. They still haven't won over 90 minutes but have made it to their first quarter finals. Benin drew their first game 2-2 with Ghana, taking an early lead and then going 2-1 down before equalizing with 27 minutes to go. Their next two group games ended goalless against Guinea-Bissau and Cameroon. Their three points qualified them as one of the best third-placed teams. That led to a last sixteen match against Morocco and they took a 53rd minute lead. Morocco equalized with a quarter of an hour remaining and the game went to penalties. Morocco missed two of their three penalties and Benin went through 4-1. This is going to be tougher for them against an in-form Senegal, there may well be under 2.5 goals and the tip is for a Senegal victory.
