Fifth seed Sebastian Baez will take on the unseeded Bernabe Zapata Miralles in the first round at the 2024 Argentina Open. Baez is returning to Buenos Aires for the fourth time. He has only once won a main draw match here and will hope to add to this and have a stronger showing. The form he is in at the moment should have him confident of a winning start. He has turned his season around after a slow start and has now compiled a 5-4 record. Three of his wins have come on clay. The Argentine is coming off a semifinal finish in Cordoba. Though a strong performance, it was disappointing as he was the defending champion. He is currently down four places in the live ranking and has started the week ranked 30th in the world.

Despite having a poor start to the year, Bernabe Zapata Miralles has moved up one place in the live ranking to 78th. He returns to Buenos Aires for the second time and will be out to defend the points he won last season. In his debut appearance, the Spaniard produced a semifinal finish. Miralles has won just twice in seven outings this season. One of those wins was on clay in Cordoba where he was eliminated in the second round. The 27-year-old is a strong performer on clay and has won over 250 matches on the surface in his career. A second-round showdown with either Luciano Darderi or Mariano Navone awaits the winner.
