Sunday in Major League Baseball sees the AL West third-place Seattle Mariners playing host to the NL West first-place LA Dodgers. The Mariners are involved in a three-team battle at the moment for the third and final Wild Card spot. Currently, Seattle have amassed 81 victories from their 148 games. This puts them just outside of the MLB Postseason as they trail the Blue Jays by half a game. The Mariners other pathway into the playoffs would involve catching the division-leading Houston Astros who they trail by a slim 1.5 games. A win for the hosts is important if they are to keep pace with the Astros and the Blue Jays. Unfortunately for them, Seattle lost the first two of this three game series against the Dodgers, the most recent of which ended 6-2. Logan Gilbert gets the start and is boasting a 13-5 record with a 3.62 ERA on the season.

The Dodgers hold a dominant position in the NL West with a 13 game lead over second-place Arizona. Their 89 wins from 146 games gives LA the second best winning percentage in the National League at 61%. Their two wins over Seattle in the previous two games means they have now managed five victories from their last eight outings. The Dodgers had to go to extra-innings to secure the victory over the Mariners in their most recent outing. A five run explosion in the top of the 11th would seal the deal for the away side and clinched the series for them. Los Angeles hasn’t named an official starter for this clash, leading to what may well turn out to be a bullpen game for them. The good news, however, is that LA possesses one of the best bullpens in all of baseball and thus are still favored to get the win.
