Early on Tuesday morning, the 28-26-12, Seattle Kraken will welcome the 32-31-5, Buffalo Sabres to Climate Pledge Arena. Both teams are out of the playoff spots as things stand but the Sabres are at least within striking distance if they hit a golden run in the final month of the season. The Kraken have been well below their 2022/23 season high this time around, nine off a playoff spot with only 16 games to play. It has been a lack of goals that has cost them, just 28th of the 32 teams. Jared McCann is their only player north of 20 tallies with 27, some way off the pace himself after netting 40 last season. This is the fifth and final game of the Kraken's current homestand; they are 0-4 so far.
Goalscoring has been the issue in Buffalo as well this season, they have only one player with 50 points on the year and that is Rasmus Dahlin who is a defenceman. They have just 17 tallies in their last eight games on the road combined, scoring just once on their first game of this trip in Detroit. The Sabres are still just about in the hint for a wildcard spot in the playoffs this season, but they are going to have to improve on the .500 hockey that they have been playing all year if they are to make the final 14 games of the regular season count. They are 8-4-1 in their last 13 to put themselves in with a chance but the defeat in Detroit ended a three-game win streak.
