The semi-finals of the PBA Governors’ Cup enters game three with the defending champions Barangay Ginebra looking to complete the sweep on their rivals the San Miguel Beermen. Ginebra is pushing for an impressive third consecutive Governors’ Cup title and fifth in the last six seasons but will have to overcome one of the league’s strongest teams in order to do so first. The Gin Kings took game one by a score of 121-112 and followed that up with a 121-103 blowout in game two to put them on the brink of making yet another finals appearance. Barangay Ginebra finished the regular season with a record of eight wins and three losses, earning them the third seed in the table. They were able to dispose of the Road Warriors in the quarter-finals and have yet to lose a playoff game on their current run. The defending champions have now ripped off three straight wins after losing the final game of the regular season. 

With their backs now firmly against the walls, San Miguel missed out on their opportunity to pull level in game two in this best of five series. They’ll now be playing for their playoff life as they face the prospect of having to win three consecutive games against an extremely talented and experienced Barangay Ginebra side. San Miguel will be looking to put a much needed end to its current two game losing streak and will need a much better performance on the defensive side of the ball. The back-to-back 121 points allowed by the Beermen is the second (and third) highest points totals they have allowed all season. They finished the regular season with a record of nine wins and two defeats, putting them second in the standings. They overcame Converge in the quarter-final and will need to reinvoke the level of play which saw them score 121 points in that game while holding their opponents to just 105.
