The Chargers are coming off a 20-17 win against the Falcons last weekend to push their record to 5-3 on the year and place them second in the AFC West behind the Kansas City Chiefs. The oddsmakers have them as a touchdown underdog coming into this game against the 4-4 Niners who are coming off a bye week and will be well-rested. Their previous game was a 31-14 win against the defending champion LA Rams.

Both teams will be in high spirits following their wins in their last outings. The Niners were arguably facing a must-win spot against the Rams after losing two straight and facing the possibility of dropping to 3-5. They were able to respond with an excellent performance and fans will still have Super Bowl hopes despite the raft of injuries suffered by the squad. On the other side, the Chargers hiccup against the Seahawks two weeks ago has been the only poor performance in the past five weeks for this side. They’ve now won four of their last five games.

Both sides have unfortunately suffered a massive amount of injuries this season which have severely dented their Super Bowl chances. Coming into the season, and with healthy squads, this could have been a potential Super Bowl matchup come February. The 49ers have been getting healthier but just lost cornerback Jason Verrett for the entire season after the 31-year-old tore his ACL in Wednesday’s practice. Influential wide receiver Deebo Samuel could be back for this one though after missing the week 8 win over the Rams with a hamstring injury. The Chargers will likely be without a number of their receiving weapons after Keenan Allen and Mike Williams both missed Thursday's practice.

We’re going to back the Chargers on the +7 spread as our bet for this one. This is simply too many points for what is a very good Chargers team. The 49ers are definitely better than their 4-4 record would suggest, especially after the acquisition of running back Christian McCaffrey but there still remains serious questions about this offense, particularly at the quarterback position. With the lookahead line on this game being Chargers +4.5, it’s difficult to see why it was bumped up nearly a full three points. San Francisco didn’t play last week and the Chargers beat the Falcons in a game that they were three-point favorites. Take the points here and back quarterback Justin Herbert to do enough to keep this one close.
