San Diego Padres vs Philadelphia Phillies Prediction & Betting Tips - MLB

The San Diego Padres host the Philadelphia Phillies at Petco Park for the third game in a four game series between the two teams on Saturday. The Padres were able to bounce back after losing the first game of the series with a 1-0 win in game two as they close in on the first place Dodgers. San Diego now holds a record of 45-28, good for second in the NL West and only a game behind Los Angeles with the two teams set to face off at the end of June. For the Phillies, the loss was the team’s fourth in the last five games as the gap between themselves and their NL East rivals continues to grow. Philadelphia now sit third in their division, trailing second-place Atlanta by four games and the first-place Mets by nine games. 

Blake Snell looks set to take the mound for the Padres with the former Cy Young award winner making only his seventh start of the season. It’s been a tough start for Snell, who is capable of much better than his 0-4 record and 5.46 ERA would suggest. His last start only saw him manage to go four innings while giving up five runs and Snell has now given up 12 runs in his last three starts altogether, totaling 14 innings of work. He’ll go up against Zach Eflin who looks likely to get the start for the Phillies as the 28-year-old righty tries to improve on his 2-5 starting record and 4.43 ERA. Eflin hasn’t fared much better in his recent appearances, giving up four earned runs in each of his last two appearances while only lasting two innings against the Nationals in his most recent start.
