Rennes tested Champions League football for the first time last season and they have vital lessons as they embark on their Europa Conference League group stage campaign. They will be playing in Group G and first on their roster is a home game against Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur. Rennes are coming from two straight defeats in the French Ligue 1 and will be eyeing recovery, having also failed to score in those two matches. Reims and Angers have beaten them 2-0 each in the last two matches, but those are their only losses in the last seven matches. They’ve won three of the last seven games but head here without a clean sheet in three. To get here, they eliminated Norwegian side Rosenborg, with home and away wins. At home, they have a run of two losses and six wins in their last 10 competitive games.

Tottenham are coming from their biggest defeat so far in the season, having capitulated late in the second half and lost 3-0 to Crystal Palace. That was their second loss this season, and they’ve won four of the six matches they’ve played so far. The London side has three clean sheets in the last four matches but in their three away matches they’ve suffered two losses, and failed to score in the said losses. They have just two wins in 11 away competitive matches and this trip to France will be a massive test for None Espirito Santo’s team. The Portuguese manager is also dealing with injuries to his team, with Son Heung-min out with a calf injury after international duty. The team will also be without Eric Dier, who lasted just 12 minutes in the loss to Palace.
