The second quarter-final of the World Baseball Classic is the battle of North America as Canada take on the USA in Houston. Micheal Soroka will take on Logan Webb in this one. Time to make a prediction on what should be a spicy contest.
Canada topped Pool A in Puerto Rico, going 3-1 in their four games. Their sole defeat came against Panama in a surprise reverse. Panama finished bottom of the group with that their only win.
On the flip side, Canada beat Columbia, Puerto Rica and Cuba, with the second of those finishing runner-up in the group. It was a lower-scoring group overall, but this will be a serious test of their pitching.
The USA finished runner-up in Pool B after a surprise defeat to Italy which saw the European team finish on top. That will have been a disappointment for the hosts who would have expected a clean sweep and a matchup with the Pool A runner-up rather than winner.
They beat up on the lesser opposition, beating Mexico courtesy of a single inning of five runs which was all that they scored in the entire contest. They have the firepower and this could turn out to be a good draw.
