Italy are clearly struggling with transition with most of the old guard stepping out. The team has won none of the last five and in their most recent game, were held by Andriy Shevchenko’s Ukraine. In their last five matches, they have drawn three and fallen twice – to France and Portugal. They have won just one of their last 10 matches and have also kept one clean sheet in the process. However, Italy have scored in six of the last seven matches, though they have managed two goals in a game on just one occasion in the last 14 matches. In their last five away games, they have lost four and drawn one. Poland aren’t far much better, with three wins in the last 12 matches and they rate slightly better than Italy, with a win in the last five matches. Poland have managed just two clean sheets in their last 11 matches but they have scored in eight of their last nine. Poland opened their UNL campaign with a loss to Portugal at home, which was their first home loss in the last five matches and they will be seeking a return to winning ways, having drawn the earlier game, a friendly match with Ireland. While they have not had a very good spell in their recent matches, they are a bit better than Italy, with whom they drew 1 – 1 in Italy in the previous UNL game. Matches between these two sides are dominated with draws; in the 15 meetings in history, seven have ended in draws and Italy have managed five wins while and Poland three.
