Philadelphia Phillies vs Atlanta Braves Prediction & Betting Tips - MLB
by Joseph King | in MLB Prediction
The Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves are set to face off for the second of a three game series as these NL East rivals look to chase down the first-place New York Mets. The Phillies took the first game by a score of 6-4 with three runs in the eighth inning ultimately sealing the deal. The win moved Philly’s record up to 50-46 and sees them trailing the Braves by seven games and the Mets by nine games with a little over a third of the season remaining. Wins in the next two games could go a long way in helping them close the gap with the second-place Braves sitting on a 58-40 record. The defending champions Atlanta have now dropped back-to-back games and will be looking to bounce back strongly with a win here as they get ready for what could potentially be a pivotal next two weeks in their season. After the series with the Phillies, Atlanta will take on the last-place Diamondbacks for three games before facing off with both the Phillies again and the Mets.
Taking the mound for the Phillies is Aaron Nola who, although sporting a less than ideal 6-7 record, has put up a solid 3.13 ERA so far on the season. Nola threw an absolute gem in his last outing, going eight and a third innings of shutout pitching while only giving up four hits and striking out an impressive 10 batters. He’ll look to keep that momentum going against a dangerous Braves lineup. For the visitors, the 23-year-old righty Spencer Strider gets the nod and has been having a strong second season in the big leagues. Strider is 4-3 on the year with a 3.03 ERA although isn’t coming off his best start of the season, giving up five runs in just four innings against the Nationals. Despite this, Strider had previously strung together an impressive run of games giving up only two total runs in his last four starts, totaling 22 total innings of work.
