Peru are hoping to qualify for back to back World Cup finals, after their participation at the 2018 showpiece in Russia. They will host Colombia this Friday as the South American qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup resume. Peru’s campaign so far is going badly, as the nation has just one point in the opening four games, a run that leaves them ninth in the 10-team table. Meanwhile, Colombia are seventh on four points and just out of the qualification places. Peru lost 2-0 to Argentina in their last qualification game and the last time they met Colombia, it ended 1-0 in favor of Colombia, one of their seven matches, in which they have no win. In the last 10, they have won only once, a 1-0 victory over Brazil. Peru aren’t the strongest in attack; they’ve scored more than a goal in just two of their last 10 matches and failed to score completely in five. Meanwhile, they’ve conceded two or more goals in their last four matches.

Colombia are also going through tough times; they have no win in their last three matches and their decline since winning their opening game of the qualifiers has been gradual. They started off with an impressive 3-0 win over Venezuela, then drew 2-2 with Chile. It got worse in the third, losing 3-0 at home to Uruguay then they were thrashed 6-1 by Ecuador. It hasn’t ben rosy at all, with three wins only in the last 11 matches and in the five competitive matches in that period, they’ve won just once. While Colombia should ordinarily walk into this game as favorites, they have issues to deal with, which will affect them here. James Rodriguez is injured, and Juan Quintero and Alfredo Morelos are isolating; this leaves them short in attack.
