Northampton Saints will look to extend their strong start to their Premiership Rugby Cup campaign when they host Newcastle Red Bulls on Saturday. The Saints are second in Group B, while Newcastle Red Bulls are third. Here is our prediction. 

Northampton Saints began their Premiership Cup campaign with a 49-34 away win over Saracens. They also defeated Harlequins 26-17 in their second fixture, winning both halves to continue their winning start to the competition. 

The victory over Harlequins saw the Saints close the gap to the group leaders, Leicester Tigers, to three points, while still having a game in hand. Overall, they have yet to taste defeat in their seven matches this season across all competitions, winning six and drawing one. This includes consecutive victories in their last five fixtures – the most recent three by nine points or more.

Newcastle Red Bulls' only win of the season was in their Premiership Cup opener against Harlequins. They have lost their six games since then, five of which by wide double-digit margins. 

This poor run of form includes a 10-8 home defeat to Leicester Tigers in their second Premiership Cup fixture earlier this month. The Newcastle-based outfit have also suffered consecutive defeats in their last 11 meetings with Northampton Saints dating back to 2022 and have lost their three away games this season by 23 points or more.
