The New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays play the first of a quick two-game series in the Bronx on Tuesday in an intriguing AL East clash. The Yankees have been one of baseball’s hottest teams and hold an AL best 20-8 record while having won eight of their last 10 games. They’re coming off a 1-0 shutout win on Monday against the Texas Rangers and will have a quick turnaround as they head back to the Big Apple. The Blue Jays enter this game on a bit of a sour note having dropped two straight against Cleveland, ultimately losing the series 3-1. The Jays sit third in the AL East with a record of 17-13, putting them four games back of their opponents today. These two teams met just last week for a quick three-game series in Toronto where the Yankees completed a successful sweep. New York is 5-2 against Toronto so far in the 2022 MLB season.

The Blue Jays are expected to start pitcher Yusei Kikuchi while the Yankees are expected to put Luis Severino on the mound. Kikuchi was a bit of a head-scratching addition for the Jays in the offseason and the 31-year-old hasn’t done much to prove the doubters wrong so far this season. Kikuchi has a 1-1 record with a 4.35 ERA but did pitch well against the Yankees in his last start where he made it through six innings and gave up just one run while striking out seven in an eventual 2-1 win for the Jays. However, that was just Toronto's first win in the games that Kikuchi has started and are now 1-4 on the season when he takes the mound. His counterpart, Yankees righty Luis Severino has had a better start to his 2022 season as the Yanks have won all five of Severino’s starts. However, he is coming off back-to-back starts where he has allowed four runs which could result in a high-scoring game.
