Wednesday in Major League Baseball sees the final Subway Series game of the 2023 regular season with the New York Yankees hosting the New York Mets. This will be the fourth meeting between these two city rivals this season with the Mets holding a 2-1 series lead. The Mets rode their hot bats to a 9-3 win on Tuesday to put an end to the Yankees three game winning streak coming into the matchup. The Yankees will now attempt to bounce back and keep pace in the race for the postseason as they’ve now slipped to bottom-place in their division. Granted, the AL East is baseball’s toughest division, but New York has now slipped 2.5 games behind Toronto in the race for the third and final Wild Card spot. The Bronx Bombers will send out Carlos Rodon to the mound to make his fourth start in the famous pinstripes at Yankee Stadium. It’s been a terrible start to his Yankees career, losing all three of his first three appearances and registering a 7.36 ERA in the process.

The Mets snapped a two game losing streak with their win over the Yankees on Tuesday. It’s been a tough year for the Metropolitans who have now dropped to fourth in the NL East with 47 wins from their 100 outings. This puts them a massive 17.5 games behind the division-leading Braves and seven games behind the Giants and Diamondbacks for the final Wild Card spot. While sneaking one of the Wild Card spots isn’t totally out of the question, New York would have to start putting up consistent wins on the board and fast. Overall, they’ve lost five of their last 10 and have a .435 winning percentage on the road. The visitors start this contest with lefty Jose Quintana who is 0-1 on the season with an ERA of 3.60. Quintana’s only start this season saw him go five innings and give up just two earned runs. Unfortunately for the 34-year-old, he wasn’t able to get enough run support and was let down by the bullpen in a 6-2 loss.
