Baseball’s biggest rivalry sees an early start time on Sunday when the New York Yankees take on the Boston Red Sox at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. After losing the first of a three game series 5-4, New York responded in an emphatic way with a dominating 14-1 victory in game two. The Yanks have a record of 63-28 and have built up a massive 13 game lead over the second-place Rays while also holding the best record in Major League Baseball. The Red Sox come into this game sitting fourth in the AL East but still in the thick of the wild card race with their 48-44 record. A run of only three wins in their last 10 games has seen Boston lose some ground and now sit a game behind the Blue Jays and 1.5 games behind the Rays for the three available wildcard spots in the American League.

Taking the mound for New York is Gerrit Cole with the All-Star righty looking to notch another win onto his 8-2 record and 3.05 ERA. Cole is coming off a hugely impressive performance in his last outing, pitching seven shutout innings while mowing down 11 batters. He was unlucky that the Yankees bullpen let him down in what turned out to be a 4-3 loss to the Reds. It was a much needed bounce back performance for the 31-year-old, who had previously given up seven earned runs and four home runs in his two starts prior. For the visitors, Chris Sale gets the start with the big lefty making only his second start of the season after recently returning from injury. The seven-time All-Star looked good in his first outing, throwing five innings of shutout baseball while only giving up three hits and striking out five. However, Sale will face a big step up in competition here when he faces off against the hard hitting Yankees who boast arguably the best lineup in the league.
