The subway series continues in Major League Baseball with the second and final game of the New York Yankees vs New York Mets in the Mets home ballpark of Citi Field. Bragging rights are on the line after the Mets took the first game by a score of 6-3 and with these two teams meeting only four times this season, both will be desperate to get a big win here. The two New York teams are among the best in the entire league with the Yankees holding a league best 66-32 record while the Mets 60-37 record is the second best in the NL. The loss for the Yankees is their fourth in the last six games, a rare downturn in form for the Bronx Bombers, although they still hold a comfortable 11.5 game lead over the second-place Blue Jays in the division. The Mets bounced back from a three game slide with back-to-back wins in their last two. Things are heating up in the NL East with the Braves closing the gap on the Mets to just two games.

Max Scherzer takes the mound for the Mets with the 38-year-old aging like a fine wine. The three-time Cy Young award winner is 6-2 on the year with a 2.28 ERA in 12 starts so far this season. Scherzer is coming off another solid start in his last outing, giving up two earned runs and striking out eight in six innings of work in a game where the Mets would ultimately fall 4-1 to the Padres. For the visitors, Domingo German makes only his second start of the season. German didn’t do much to inspire confidence in his lone start of the season, giving up five earned runs and two home runs before being yanked after three innings pitched. This is an ominous situation for the Yankees as it doesn’t look like German will be a part of the Yankees bullpen for much longer and is coming up against one of the league’s top offenses.
