The Netherlands have had major difficulties qualifying for tournament finals. They missed out on the 2016 European Championships and the 2018 World Cup. A corner looks to have been turned though as they won their UEFA Nations League group to qualify for the semi-finals in June. That was an impressive performance as they were up against world champions France and Germany. They won the group and earned four points out of six against the Germans including a 3-0 home win over them last October. Their Euro 2020 campaign began with a 4-0 home win over Belarus and that stretched their unbeaten run to four matches. Eight of their last nine home matches have been won with three consecutive clean sheets.
Germany had a disastrous World Cup and then finished bottom of their Nations League group to be relegated to League B for the next tournament. Midweek saw them have to come from behind to get a 1-1 home draw in a friendly with Serbia meaning only one of their last five games have been won. The Germans have lost both of their away games since the World Cup and five of their last six on their travels have ended in defeat. The Netherlands will want to stamp their authority on this group and can get a home win over the Germans.
