Malta vs England Prediction & Betting Tips - Euro
by Steve Ashfield | in Euro Prediction
England have made a great start to their Euro 2024 qualifying group. On Friday June 16th they travel to Malta for their third qualifying match. They lead Group C by three points from Italy with Malta bottom after two defeats. The Three Lions started their campaign with a repeat of the 2020 (21) Euro final. This time they got the better of Italy winning the away fixture 2-1. That was followed up by a comfortable 2-0 home win over Ukraine to make it six points out of six for Gareth Southgate's men. With their next game being home to North Macedonia (who have won their only group game), two more wins will see England well on the way to qualifying for the finals in Germany. Three points should definitely be earned against the Knights of Malta who have already been beaten by North Macedonia and Italy. They did get a 1-0 win in Luxembourg in a friendly match but this is a huge step up in class for the Falcons and another Euro defeat looks on the cards here.Limited Offer. Currently at DraftKings

Malta - England: Form Analysis
England have only lost one of their last eight internationals. That was the 2-1 defeat by France in the last eight of the 2022 World Cup. How different that might have been but for a late penalty miss by Harry Kane. Four of their last five matches have been won and they come into this game with a very impressive Euro qualifying record. Only one of their last 28 qualifiers has been lost and that was to the Czechs in 2019. Since that 2-1 loss, they have won five qualifiers by an aggregate score of 21-2. England have kept clean sheets in four of their last six games with only France and Italy scoring against them. In away Euro qualifiers, only one loss in 14 games has been recorded with two clean sheets in the last three. Wins in this group have come away to Italy and at home against Ukraine. They have played Malta five times in the past. All have been won with only one goal conceded and 14 goals scored.
Malta can only dream of such statistics. However, they did win their last match with a 1-0 win away to Luxembourg. The win came after three successive defeats to Ireland, North Macedonia and Italy. The latter two were both in this Euro qualifying group. Another loss in this game against England will see them having lost 12 consecutive European qualifying matches. Only one of their last 41 Euro qualifiers has been won and that was against the Faroe Islanders four years ago. Since that rare victory, Malta have conceded 30 goals in 11 qualifiers. Nine of those matches have seen them fail to score with only two being scored in total. Home form has seen them lose their last five home Euro qualifiers by an aggregate score of 1-14.

Malta & England Squad Analysis
England have seen both Lewis Dunk and Jude Bellingham pull out of the squad announced by Gareth Southgate. Raheem Sterling was not included and Ivan Toney is currently suspended. England may well use squad rotation in this game. They are fully expected to beat Malta and it is unlikely that any Manchester City players will be included in the starting line-up. That means no Grealish, Phillips, Foden, Stones and Walker. They are yet to join the squad and will likely be saved for the North Macedonia match on June 19. Eberechi Eze is yet to play for England but could well come on at some point in this match.
Malta will be without goalkeeper Cain Formosa for this match against England. He's yet to earn a cap for Malta but was on the bench in their win over Luxembourg. Zach Muscat is expected to start the match and Jodi Jones may come on at some point in the game. He plays for Notts County who were recently promoted back into the EFL. The striker is yet to score a goal for Malta and would be a national hero if getting one against England.
