One giant must fall on Wednesday, when Olympique Lyon plays host to Paris Saint Germain in the semi finals of the French Cup. 18 points separate the two sides in the Ligue 1 but all that will count for nothing here, as the two sides meet for the third time this season. PSG have already won the two Ligue 1 meetings between the two sides and Lyon, with two wins and three losses in the last five matches against PSG, will be keen to avoid a third straight loss this season. The last time these two faced off, PSG claimed a 4-2 win and since then, Lyon have gone on a five-match unbeaten run, winning four and keeping four clean sheets. Among the teams they have beaten include Olympique Marseille in the French Cup and Juventus in the Champions League. While they have not been free-scoring in these five matches, they have done superbly well in defence and they will want to test this against the best team in France at the moment. Lyon are unbeaten in nine matches at home, winning six of those and drawing three. They have five clean sheets in their last six home matches. They have four straight wins in the French Cup and in each of their last three matches in the competition, they have eliminated Ligue 1 opposition. They have two losses and 11 wins in their last 13 French Cup matches.

PSG, on their part, head to this game on the back of a 4-0 win over Dijon, which was also their first clean sheet in seven matches. Against Lyon, away from home, they will have a stiffer challenge, especially after having beaten them twice this season. One thing we can’t take from PSG is their goal scoring prowess; in the last five matches they have scored four or more in four. In the last five matches they have scored 19 goals though in their three wins in the last five matches, none of the teams match the opposition Lyon can offer. PSG have scored five goals in their last two away matches but won none of them, while they have no clean sheet in their last four away matches. They have won each of their four matches in the French Cup since their loss to Rennes on penalties in the final last season. They have lost thrice in their last five visits at Lyon while four of the last five meetings between these two sides have produced over 2.5 goals.
