The second round of the Madrid Masters sees 12th-seeded Taylor Fritz take on Luciano Darderi. This is an outdoor clay court tournament and the winner will face either the 18th seed Sebastian Baez or unseeded Luis Van Assche in the last 32. Taylor Fritz wlll want to build on his performance in last week's BMW Open. The American reached his first ever clay court final but was beaten by Jan-Lennard Struff who was the losing finalist in this tournament last year. He's 13th in the live rankings and a couple of places lower in the ATP Race. The 26-year-old received a bye into the second round of this Masters tournament.and will be keen to repeat last year's form in Madrid when reaching the fourth round.

The first round of this tournament saw Luciano Darderi beat Gael Monfils in straight sets. That's taken him to 55th in the live list which is a new career-high for the Italian. He's 39th in the Live ATP Race and has won one clay court tournament this year. That was in Cordoba and one of his wins was against possible third-round opponent Sebastian Baez. His good form continued with a run to the last four of the US Clay Court Championship. Last week didn't go quite so well with a first round exit in Bucharest.
