Seeded fifth in the WTA Austin, French tennis star Diane Parry will be facing a somewhat familiar opponent in Kamilla Rakhimova. The two clashed back in January in the second round of the Australian Open in Melbourne, meeting for the first time in their careers, and Parry came out a solid 7-5, 6-2 winner on the hard court. Parry is ranked 59th in the Live Rankings at present and the 21 year old came through her first round game in Austin against compatriot Jessika Ponchet, winning 6-3, 7-6 (4). It was a welcome win for the French 21-year-old clay specialist, who has improved her record on hard surfaces a great deal this year, having won 7 of her 11 games on the surface this season, compared to just 6 out of 21 matches on hard courts last season.
Her opponent is Russian Kamilla Rakhimova, who came through an exciting and exhausting Round 1 game against Belgian Yanina Wickmayer, winning a hotly contested match 6-3, 6-7(4), 7-5(5). Currently ranked 95th in the Live Rankings, the Russian has won just four of her ten matches since January, two of those wins coming against America's Alycia Parks, in the qualifiers for the Qatar Open and Dubai Duty Free Championship. Reaching the Round of 16 in Austin matches here performance at the Canberra 125, but arguably her best performance came in reaching the last 64 at the Australian Open in January, ironically where she lost to today's opponent. Rakhimova has been ranked at a highest of 65th in the world, back in June 2023, but her performances at present are a little off that level.
