The Italian Serie A is back and among the matches set for the opening weekend, Juventus will be at home to take on Sampdoria on Sunday. While Sampdoria have had three preseason matches, Juventus’ activity in preseason has been limited to one friendly match and they beat Novara 5-0 in that. Juventus start their campaign seeking a 10th straight league title and have a new coach in Italian football icon Andrea Pirlo, who replaced Maurizio Sarri after a dismal performance in the Champions League. Edin Dzeko is set to complete the move to Turin but he may be left out of this game, with Pirlo reported to be looking introduce a new system of play: 3-5-2. Towards the close of last season, Juventus were shaky but they still managed to limp to the finish line and win the league title. They had two wins in their final eight league matches and here they will be looking to have a flying start. With just one clean sheet in their last 10 league matches, Pirlo will have more reason to change the team’s playing style and he will be favored to have kept key players, with Paulo Dybala set to play support cast to Cristiano Ronaldo. The Turin side has lost just once in 40 home matches in the league; the loss came in their last home game in Serie A, against AS Roma. The 3-1 loss was the only match in 13 home games that Juventus failed to score at least two goals. In the last five meetings between these two sides, Juventus have four wins.

Sampdoria have one win in five meetings with Juventus and after losing home and away last season, they will be keen to avoid an opening loss here. In their three preseason matches, Sampdoria were impressive in attack, scoring eight goals, but conceded two, and they will be looking to build on the back to back wins they had ahead of this game, though this will be a tougher opponent. Sampdoria managed just 12 wins last season; six of these came away from home and they will be hoping for a better showing this season. They wrapped up the season winless in the final four games as they finished in 15th place and have no clean sheet away from home in 10 Serie A matches. In their last 10 away matches in the league last season, Sampdoria conceded two or more goals in six but they failed to score in just two.
