An unseeded player will be in the final of the Qatar ExxonMobil Open. Jakub Mensik takes on Gael Monfils with the winner up against either second seed Karen Khachanov or unseeded Alexei Popyrin. The top half of this hard court tournament has certainly produced some surprises. That was definitely so in the last eight as both the top and third seeds were beaten. It was Jakub Mensik who beat top seed Andrey Rublev and did so in straight sets. When this ATP 250 event began, Mensik was a career high 116th when this tournament got underway. He's smashed that with this run to the last four and is now 94th in the live rankings. The Czech has won three matches to get to the last four and had to play for six and a half hours. Those three matches have seen him play five tie-breaks, including all three sets in his win over Andy Murray in round two. He also beat fifth seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in round one.

Gael Monfils is up to 54th in the live rankings as he makes his way back up the rankings. The Frenchman is 37 years-old compared to his opponent who's only 19. He actually played his first Grand Slam event before Mensik was born. This year has seen him win five of his nine matches. He hadn't got past the second round of a tournament before this run to the Doha semi-finals. He's had wins over Botic van de Zandschulp, Zhihzen Zhang (after losing the first set) and then third seed Ugo Humbert in the quarter finals without dropping a set. We tip Mensik to get the win.
