Cote d’Ivoire had a good start to the 2021 AFCON though their performance in the 1-0 win over Equatorial Guinea wasn’t the most solid. They will look to build on it when they take on Sierra Leone in their second game. Cote d’Ivoire lead E with three points, while second placed Sierra Leone have one. Max Gradel’s goal was the difference in the opening game and Cote d’Ivoire now have four wins in their last five matches. They aren’t in contention for a place at the 2022 World Cup so the Ivorians will know they have to give their all here. In their last 13 matches, Côte d’Ivoire have lost just once, against Cameroon, and they go to this game with three clean sheets in the last five matches. They have scored two or more goals in six of their last 10 games and have only failed to score in three of their last 10 matches.

Sierra Leone pulled a great result against Algeria and will want to be more explorative against Cote d’Ivoire, knowing that a draw may not be enough for them as they seek a place in the next stage. This is their first time playing at AFCON since 1996 and they aren’t a side on a very good run. They were the last to qualify for AFCON after the controversial rescheduled game against Benin. They won that game and that’s how they got their ticket to AFCON 2021. That is their only win in the last 11 matches and they’ve failed to score in the last three matches. Sierra Leone haven’t managed more than a goal in their last six games either and have failed to score completely in six of their last 10 matches. This isn’t the first time the two nations are meeting, there have been four meetings before and Sierra Leone are winless.
