Seventh seed Jasmine Paolini meets Iva Jovic in the second round at the US Open. The two will clash for the second time, with the winner set to face Marketa Vondrousova or McCartney Kessler next. Read on for our match prediction.

Jovic has had a poor run in the main tour this season, which brings her here as a clear underdog. She’s only reached the third round once, at Cincinnati. The second round represents her toughest stage, as she has lost six of her last 10 matches there.

Her journeys at the Australian and French Opens also ended in this round. To get to the second round, she overcame Aliaksandra Sasnovich in straight sets and moved to 79th in the live rankings.

Paolini reached the US Open fourth round last year. This will be her second time in the second round, and going past the first, where she’d lost three times before, was an achievement in itself.

Her straight-sets win over Destanee Aiava in the first round took her US Open tally to 16-16 and placed her seventh in the live rankings. It also means she hasn’t lost a first-round match this season.

However, the Italian hasn’t gone past the fourth round at the Grand Slam stage this year. Having won the title in Rome, and reached the Cincinnati final should be convincing enough of her favorite status here.
