The third quarter-final contest in the World Baseball Classic will see Italy take on Puerto Rico. Ahead of making out prediction, it is worth noting that the game is in Houston where Italy have played all their games so far, with Puerto Rico moving from their home to play.

Without a shadow of a doubt, the biggest surprise of the tournament was Italy qualifying with a perfect 4-0 record out of Pool B which contained both the USA and Mexico.

They have a strong side with plenty of MLB experience running though it but beating the USA was one of (if not the) biggest shock ever seen at this tournament. What was more impressive was coming out the next day to thrash Mexico when they could easily have been on a come down from their celebrations. 

Three of Puerto Rico’s games in Pool A suffered rain delays, but helped through by their home crowd, they fought their way to a 3-1 record to make their way to the knockout stages. 

That sole defeat came against Canada, a 2-3 reverse with no disgrace in that effort. Canada will be a big price to beat the USA though, so Puerto Rico will need another smart effort to beat a rampaging Italian side.
