The two best performing sides at Euro 2020, England and Italy, will face off in the final at Wembley on Sunday, after seeing off stiff competition in the semis. England held their nerve to chase a game for the first time in this competition and beat Denmark 2-1 while Italy had to go all the way to post match penalties before dispatching Spain. England conceded for the first time in this competition in the semi finals but had a superb response as they fought past a gritty and determined Danish side. They have the momentum and will hope to ride through in the very last game after making it to a major final for the first time in 55 years. They are seeking their first ever European title and by Italy’s own profile, this will be the hardest game for England. They are unbeaten in the last 12 matches and have 10 clean sheets in that run. The win over Denmark was the third straight game that they managed two or more goals and will hope to take the same to the game against Italy, a team they’ve drawn with in their last two meetings.

In their last six competitive meetings, Italy haven’t lost to England; this is the run they’ll want to carry here and having been outstanding in this competition, they’ll be confident enough for that. They’ve had the harder route to the final, having had to face Belgium and Spain, but Italy have held their own very well, and after missing the 2018 World Cup, they can make up for it in a big way here. Italy are unbeaten in their last 33 matches and the draw with Spain, marked the only time they failed to win in their last 14 matches. They needed post match penalties against Spain, and unlike England, Italy haven’t trailed in any of their matches at Euro 2020. While we can’t say their defensive efficiency has gone down significantly, Italy have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last three matches, having done that at the group stages. However, unlike England, they’ve scored in each of their matches at this competition. The Italians will still be without Leonardo Spinazzola after his injury in the Belgium game but Emerson Palmieri did well as his replacement against Spain.
