Italy rank high among the most impressive teams at Euro 2020 so far, and after winning all their matches in Group A, they have a clash with Austria in the second round. Austria managed a second place finish in Group C with wins over Ukraine and North Macedonia. Italy have racked up impressive numbers going to this game; they won all their group games with clean sheets, scoring seven goals. They had already qualified for this stage when they got to play Wales in the final group game, and the 1-0 win there was their 11th straight win and clean sheet. They’ve conceded just one goal in their last 15 matches and are unbeaten in 30 matches. No other team currently at the tournament has such numbers, which easily makes Italy strong favorites in the competition. Roberto Mancini rested up to eight key players and it is expected key defender Giorgio Chiellini will be back after the injury that saw him substituted early in the second game.
Austria didn’t have it all smooth in their run for the second round ticket. After beating North Macedonia in the opening Group C game, they fell to the Netherlands and needed a win over Ukraine in the final group game. They got it but in very nervy conditions as Ukraine were also pushing for the same. Austria haven’t had a run as strong as Italy’s; they have three losses and two wins in their last six matches. They have failed to score in four of the last six matches and apart from the 3-1 win over Macedonia, they haven’t scored more than a goal in their last six matches. Austria could miss the services of Christoph Baumgartner who scored the only goal against Ukraine. The forward was withdrawn with a head injury about 12 minutes after scoring in the game and he is unlikely to feature in this game.
