Alejandro Davidovich Fokina is in his first ATP Tour outdoor hard court final since last year's tournament in Washington. He's won one title this year, but that was on grass in Mallorca. He has had to beat Juan Manuel Cerundolo, Alexandre Muller and then Nikoloz Basilashvili, needing three sets in the latter.

He leads Hurkacz 4-2 in previous meetings (2-1 on outdoor hard courts). Over three sets, at least 23 games were played in their last three matches.
