Hungary are in a tough group and it doesn’t help that they opened their Euro 2020 campaign on a losing note. They will be taking on France in their second game of the tournament, looking to stop the world champions, who beat Germany in their opening game. Hungary held on for much of their game against Portugal but dropped the ball in the final six minutes and suffered a 3-0 loss. They had a goal disallowed before finally conceding in the 84th minute and there was no getting back even as they enjoyed a vocal backing at the Puskas Arena. Before that loss they hadn’t tasted defeat in 10 matches, but in all fairness, they hadn’t encountered serious opposition. France are coming from an important opening win over top rivals Germany. Their 1-0 win came courtesy of a Mats Hummels’ own goal but generally the French were dominant, and should have won by a bigger margin. The world champions had two goals disallowed after VAR reviews showed marginal offsides for Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema. The year 2005 was the last time these nations met and France won 2-1 on that occasion. Going here they are still favorites and will be buoyed by their win over Germany. With a game against Portugal ahead, France will be keen on seeing off Hungary to secure their place in the next stage of the competition. Their win over Germany was the fifth straight win, and with a clean sheet, while they’ve now gone unbeaten in their last eight matches and have six clean sheets.
