After slow starts to their 2025-26 EFL Championship campaign, Hull and Oxford United will clash in a matchday two fixture on Sunday looking for their first win. This match between the Tigers and U's at the MKM Stadium comes with our prediction of under 2.5 goals. Hull picked up one point from matchday one, while Oxford were beaten on the opening weekend.
Both teams seem to have continued from where they finished last season, as goals remain a scarce commodity in their games. Looking back to the last campaign, Hull's home games haven't seen much action, and that could be a concern as they aim to steer clear of relegation danger.
Oxford bounced back from the loss on opening day to find comfort in the EFL Cup but will look to get points on the board in the Championship. They haven't lost both the opening games of a league season since 2020-21, so there's an additional incentive to improve. Can the visitors raise their game and get something out of this trip? Hull - Oxford United: Form Analysis
Hull started their league campaign with a 0-0 away draw at fancied Coventry. It wasn’t a game for the neutrals, as action was limited, but the Tigers did their job and earned a point.
Their recent game took them to Wales to play Wrexham in the first round of the EFL Cup, which ended 3-3 during regular time. Hull couldn’t progress, though, as they lost via penalties. Interestingly, the Tigers are still unbeaten in regular time this season, including friendlies (W3, D3).
Hull are unbeaten in their last nine home league matches against Oxford (W6, D3).
That’s a comprehensive record, which will take some effort from the visitors to change the narrative. Oxford won 1-0 at home against Colchester last week in the EFL Cup, with the winning strike coming in the ninth minute.
The narrow win helped soothe the disappointment of losing 1-0 on the opening weekend at home against Portsmouth. The deciding goal was netted in the 38th minute, so another action-packed first half could be on offer.

Hull & Oxford United Squad Analysis
Hull not just lost to Wrexham in the EFL Cup but also saw centre-back Semi Ajayi tweak his hamstring. He will now miss this game against Oxford, joining the likes of Liam Millar and Mohamed Belloumi on the sidelines.
Ajayi’s absence could open the doors for Akin Famewo to start on the left side of the central defence in their 4-2-3-1 formation. An interesting choice upfront could be to line up Joe Gelhardt in place of Kyle Joseph.
Oxford could name the same playing side from their EFL Cup game.
That’s despite a suspected concussion for centre-back Elliott Moore, who’s declared fit to play. He will marshal the backline in their 4-2-3-1 formation, and with both teams playing the same way, it could be a battle of the midfield that may decide the game.
Summer signing Brian De Keersmaecker is still not available for the visitors, joining Luke Harris and Ole Romeny, among others, on the sidelines. Doubts remain over the availability of Przemyslaw Placheta and Nik Prelec for this trip.
