Wednesday in Major League Baseball sees the Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners closing out their three-game series after splitting the first two games. After dropping game one 7-4, Houston bounced back with a 4-1 win yesterday thanks to a seven inning, 12 strikeout performance from ace Justin Verlander. They’ll now be looking to add another win to their AL West best 36-20 record as they chase down the Yankees for the best record in the AL. Their opponents, Seattle, are currently six games below .500 and sit fourth out of five in the AL West with a 25-31 record. The Mariners have seen a bit of an uptick in form however, and have won six of their last 10 games. They’ll be up against it here though as Houston’s strong home record of 15-7 is in stark contrast to Seattle’s 13-21 away record.

Taking the mound for the Mariners is Marco Gonzales, the 30-year-old lefty who has posted a 3-6 record with a 3.59 ERA so far this season. This is an interesting spot that could provide some value in backing the road underdogs as the Astros haven’t hit lefties well this season. Gonzales has already had three solid outings against this Houston team so far this year, with his most notable being a seven inning performance while only allowing one run. In total against the Astros this season, Gonzales has put in 20 innings of work and has given up only six earned runs. He’ll be facing off against Jose Urquidy who will get the start for Houston with the 27-year-old sporting a 5-2 record and a concerning ERA of 4.76. Urquidy has struggled in recent outings, giving up 13 runs in his last 22 innings pitched as well as allowing a home run in his last four consecutive starts.
