Houston Astros vs New York Mets Prediction & Betting Tips - MLB

Two of Major League Baseball’s best teams face off when the New York Mets head south to take on the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park for the first of a quick two game series. New York bounced back with a 6-0 win against Miami in their last outing, wrapping up the series 3-1 and winning their seventh game out of the last 10. The win pushes the Mets record to an NL best 45-24 and they trail only their city rivals the Yankees for the best record in baseball. Their opponents come into this game sitting atop the AL West with a 41-25 record, giving the Astros a sizable 10 game lead over the second-place Angels. Houston comes into this one off the back winning their series against the White Sox two games to one after a 4-3 victory on Sunday. This is the fourth home game in a row for the ‘Stros who should be well rested after having Monday off. 

Taking the mound for the Mets is Trever Williams who is set to get his sixth start of the season. Williams pitched fairly well in his last start against the powerhouse Dodgers on June 5th, putting up a stat line of: five innings pitched, two earned runs, six hits and five strikeouts. The Mets will be aiming to get another four or five solid innings out of Williams in this one with the 30-year-old having a 1-3 record and 3.53 ERA on the season. On the other side, Jose Urquidy gets the nod for the Astros with the fourth-year starter looking to improve on his 5-4 record and concerning 4.99 ERA. The 27-year-old right handed pitcher has been leaking runs lately on the hill, giving up 17 runs in his last four starts totaling 21 innings pitched. He’ll have to be much better in this start against baseball’s highest scoring offense if Houston is to win this one.
