The reign of France as women’s world handball champions ended on Friday. They lost to Germany in the semi-finals and now face in the third and fourth place play-off. Can France win the bronze medal? Time for our match prediction.
Before the start of this tournament, France were unbeaten in 2025. That statistic remained in place when they won their Preliminary Round group with three wins. Further victories came against Austria and Italy in the Main Round but their unbeaten run ended when they were beaten by the Netherlands, who they now face in this match for the bronze medal.
France had beaten the Netherlands in their six previous meetings and will want some revenge here.
The Netherlands were just one win away from contesting the final in their own country. However, it was not to be as the Dutch side were defeated by current European and Olympic champions Norway. They lost that semi-final 35-25.
It was a disappointing result for the Netherlands having recorded that victory over France in the Main Round. They are at least guaranteed a top four finish in a major tournament since the 2018 Euros.
