After a successful summer tour of Argentina, England play their first Autumn Test this Saturday. They are home to Australia who recently finished third in the Rugby Championships. Here's our match prediction.
England did well to win the summer series in Argentina. They were fielding a much-weakened side due to players being on tour with the Lions in Australia. After winning that series, many will now be back in the England fold for this match. England will be hoping for a successful Autumn as they prepare for the 2026 Six Nations. They will be out for revenge this weekend after a narrow loss to Australia last Autumn.
Australia are seventh in the world rugby rankings and last weekend won 19-15 in Japan. The side that faces England this weekend will see many changes being made from the team that won the match but as you'll read, the Wallabies are not going to be at full-strength this weekend.

England - Australia: Form Analysis
England take on Australia looking to make it eight wins in a row. After losing their opening Six Nations match away in Ireland, England won their next four games to finish second just a point behind champions France.
A weakened line-up was still able to have a successful summer. They won both of their test matches in Argentina and followed that up with a win in the USA. England will still not be at full strength for this match but will be out to get back into winning ways against Australia.
England will be out for revenge.
Last Autumn saw them lose 42-27 at home to the Wallabies. That was the first time they had lost to Australia at home since a defeat in the Pool stages of the 2015 Rugby World Cup. 10 of their last 12 games against Australia have ended in victory.
Australia won away in Japan last weekend. They were 11 points up at the break but ended up only winning by four. A win is a win though and Australia had lost their three previous internationals, all played in the Rugby Championship.
A home loss to Argentina was followed by two defeats by New Zealand. They finished third in the Rugby Championship, eight points behind the top two. A disappointing summer also saw them lose a home series against the British & Irish Lions by two tests to one.

England & Australia Squad Analysis
Fin Smith is only on the bench for England’s match against Australia. There’s no place for Harlequin’s Marcus Smith.
George Ford has made the starting line-up and he’ll be playing at fly-half in this Autumn Test. After playing on the right wing for the Lions during the summer, Tommy Freeman will be outside centre for this match.
Saints pair team up for England
Northampton have made a strong start to the new season and Freeman will be partnering his Saints team mate Fraser Dingwall. England will also be hoping that Tom Roebuck continues the good form he showed during the successful summer tour of Argentina. The same goes for Exeter’s Immanuel Feyi-Waboso who will be on the left-wing and has already scored seven tries for Exeter Chiefs this season.
Tane Edmed will be Australia’s fly-half for this match and faces a tough afternoon. He’s only started three Tests for his country, while England fly-half George Ford has passed the century mark.
Several changes will be made to the side that beat Japan last Saturday. The Wallabies do have several players missing from their team due to this game not being played in an international window. That means players such as Will Skelton, Len Ikitau and James O’Connor will be remaining with their European clubs.
England - Australia Key Points
- England have won their last seven matches.
- England have only lost once at home to Australia in the past ten years.
- Australia have lost three of their last four internationals.
- England have won 10 of their last 12 games against the Wallabies.

Our England vs Australia Prediction
England will want to get their Autumn Tests off to a winning start. They so nearly won the Six Nations this year, only failing by a point to catch champions France. Even though being nowhere near full strength, they then won three away games against Argentina and the USA.
Australia had a win in South Africa during the summer but on the whole it was a disappointing time for them. A home series loss to the Lions was followed by only finishing third in the Rugby Championship, Our main England v Australia prediction is England wins on a -5.5 handicap.
