The winners of the 2017-18 edition, Eintracht Frankfurt, are set to host the 2021 champions, Borussia Dortmund, at the Deutsche Bank Park in the second round of the DFB Pokal. This is a rematch of the 2016-17 final, which saw Dortmund come out on top in a 2-1 victory at the Olympic Stadium to win their fourth title after a five-year drought. Here's our match prediction.
Eintracht Frankfurt have been underperforming in the past weeks as they come into this match with just one win in their last five across all competitions.
That victory came against St. Pauli in the Bundesliga on Saturday, with the team recording a 2-0 home victory to end a four-match winless run.
The Eagles now shift their attention to the DFB Pokal. Dino Toppmoller's men secured a commanding 5-0 away win against fifth-tier FV Engers 07 in the first round. In the previous edition, they reached the Round of 16 but were eliminated by RB Leipzig in a 3-0 thrashing.
Borussia Dortmund, meanwhile, have performed to the standards required of them. A 2-1 defeat against Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga is the only defeat they've suffered in the 2025-26 season (W8, D3).
The Prussians have won two consecutive matches across all competitions, including a 1-0 home league win against Cologne.
Niko Kovac's men began the DFB Pokal with an unconvincing 1-0 away win to RW Essen in the first round.
