The Dominican Republic take on South Korea in the first quarter-final of the World Baseball Classic. It’s got to the lose and go home stage of the competition, so let’s get stuck into a prediction.
It has been an exceptional tournament so far for the Dominican Republic, a perfect 4-0 in the Pool stage where they topped Pool D. Those games were all in Miami which is where they remain ahead of this contest.
They scored 12 times in two of those group games, finishing the group with 41 runs scored and only 10 against them. It was only against Venezuela that they really had to work hard to get the job done but they won 7-5 in the end.
South Korea were part of the group that played in Japan, so they have had to travel ahead of this matchup. Wins against the Czech Republic and more importantly against Australia in their final Pool game saw them into this stage.
They made Japan work hard, only going under 6-8 and then lost to Chinese Taipei in extra innings. They are going to need to be on their mettle in this one against a very strong side.
