Denmark so nearly made it through to the final of the Women's world handball championships. They lost their semi-final to France 23-22 after leading 12-10 at half time. It's been a good tournament though for the Danes who have struggled to recapture the fomr that won them a hat-trick of Olympic titles. Last year saw them finish fourth n the European championships and they will hope to go one better in this tournament. They had won six matches in a row before the narrow loss in the semi-finals.

Spain were hoping to make it to a second world championship final in a row. It looked possible for a while as they went into the half-time break in their semi-final drawing 11-11 with Norway. Their opponents proved too strong in the second half though with Norway eventually winning 27-21. They also had a 100% record going into that semi-final but had struggled to get wins over Japan, Croatia and Brazil. Denmark should be able to clinch third place with a win over the Spaniards.
