Flavio Cobolli and Denis Shapovalov will face off for the first time in their careers in the second round at Halle. The winner here will progress to meet Alexander Zverev or Lorenzo Sonego next. Below is our prediction of this match.

Shapovalov has had a difficult season but will come here buoyed by his elimination of sixth seed Ugo Humbert. The three-set win was somewhat expected, as Humbert wasn’t entirely fit in that first-round encounter.

Nonetheless, the Canadian, who has struggled to win more than a match in his recent events, will be happy to progress. That was only his third win in the last 10 matches, and he has a 15-12 record thus far. 

Cobolli closed the clay swing in a much more satisfying design and has his hopes high as grass season catches on. Though the Italian hasn’t had an entirely dominant campaign, he has two titles to show.

He can only target improving on his 19-15 record thus far. His endurance was on display in the first round at Halle. Cobolli rose from losing the opening set against Joao Fonseca to winning the next two via tiebreakers in a grueling clash.

That match lasted close to three hours, and Cobolli will only hope fatigue doesn’t check in. It was his eighth win in the last 10 outings.
