Second seed Taylor Fritz is playing in his third quarter-final in Lyon. He was the semi-finalist in this indoor hard court tournament seven years ago, and faces unseeded Daniel Altmaier in this year's quarter-final. Daniel Altmaier had been struggling in recent tournaments with just one of his last six matches ending in victory. Another early exit looked possible in Lyon as he lost the opening set of his first round match against Titouan Droguet. He dug himself out of that hole and then beat Borna Gojo in straight sets.
Altmaier is playing in his first ATP Tour indoor hard quarter-final since Metz last November.
