Croatia and Spain both left it late before getting their opening wins at Euro 2020 and they will be facing off in the second round after their comfortable wins in their final matches at the group stage. Croatia finished second in Group D with four points and Spain second in Group E on five points. In their opening two group games, Croatia managed one point but turned on the style in the third to thrash Scotland 3-1 with a Luka Modric masterclass. That was Croatia’s first win in the last five matches and they have now failed to keep a clean sheet in five matches as well. They will be short in defence with Dejan Lovren suspended which will call for great organization at the back. Croatia have been on a steady decline after reaching the 2018 world Cup final, and at one point they had to take in a 6-0 loss to Spain. They did avenge with a 3-2 win though, and going here they’ll hope to overcome their struggles in attack. In the last 10 matches, they’ve managed more than a goal in just three, but have failed to score in only three.
Spain whacked Slovakia 5-0 in their final group game, waking up from the slumber in their earlier two matches. Even with the huge win against Slovakia, were Spain still wasteful in attack, including missing a penalty in the game. The win over Slovakia marked their 11th unbeaten outing and going to this game, they have four clean sheets in their last five though they failed to score in two. Even in the event Spain have failed to score, their dominance has been evident, a case in point, the game against Sweden. In five of their last 10 matches, Spain have managed to score more than a goal. This is the stage in which they were eliminated in the 2016 edition and Spain, who also lost to Croatia in that tournament, will hope to avoid another early exit.

Our Croatia vs Spain Prediction
This match pits two midfields that play to dominate games, and with Luka Modric on one side, and Pedri on the other, we won’t lack in creativity in that midfield. It is still expected to be a cagey affair but on the strength of recent performances, Spain should win this.
