The Africa Cup of Nations group C matchday 1 sees Comoros take on Gabon at the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium in the host country of Cameroon. 132 FIFA ranked Comoros will make history here as they take part in their first ever Africa Cup of Nations and although they aren’t expected to mount a serious challenge for the title (joint highest outright odds at 250/1), they could absolutely spring a surprise or two in the group stage. They will be up against a Gabon side that ranks 89th in the world according to FIFA and is a well seasoned international side. They will be participating in their eighth AFCON and the books only give them a slim chance of making a deep run in the tournament, with outright winner odds of 75/1. Gabon are coming off a 1-1 draw in their final tune up match before the tournament while Comoros are coming off a 2-1 defeat to Malawi in their last match on December 31st.

Gabon will be without their two best and most influential players in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mario Lemina after both tested positive for COVID. The Panthers have not had an ideal preparation for this year's edition of the AFCON, suffering a heavy 3-0 defeat to Burkina Faso in their penultimate friendly which has now made it three matches without a victory. Comoros find themselves in much better form than their opponents and have won three of their last four matches. With the absence of their star players and the fact that Gabon have only won twice in their last nine matches, rookies Comoros should be full of confidence that they can take something from this match.
